Adams County to centralize human services in one building
(Gettysburg) — Adams County will consolidate drug and alcohol assessments, mental health assistance, and probation services into one building, a change that’s meant to make it easier for people to access them all in a single trip.
The government-funded addiction and mental health services would be in one building near Gettysburg instead of at several locations.
Steve Warren, head of York Adams Mental Health, Intellectual and Developmental Disabilities Program, says centralizing everything will facilitate more responsive treatment.
“The courts order somebody to be evaluated for a drug and alcohol problem, we can make those arrangements right there on the same day, as opposed to having to schedule somebody to go to one of the clinics a week or so later,” Warren says.
“If you live in Gettysburg or the western part of Adams County and you need case management services from us, the closest office is in Hanover. Now, the closest office would be here in this building, in Gettysburg.”
Warren says the new arrangement should improve results for patients, and coordination between the probation system and drug, alcohol and mental counselors.
Warren’s program is paying $450,000 of more than $8 million in project costs.
The new arrangement has to be approved by the Adams County commissioners.
They’re expected to do that by July 15th.
