(York) — After months of delays, a midstate county wracked by heroin overdose deaths may soon make a life-saving drug available through police officers.

One police chief in York County had expected his officers would be carrying Narcan by the start of this year, but prospective partnerships fell through.

With a couple sprays up the nose, the drug reverses the effects of an opioid overdose.

At a meeting this morning, York County District Attorney Tom Kearney plans to detail to the county commissioners an agreement for the drug.

Some departments in southeastern Pennsyvlania already carry the antidote, and officers have resuscitated at least two people.
