“To go to a bar or a place that has music to see a national artist and pay $20 or $30 for a ticket and not be able to hear the guy is not my idea of a good time,” says Loren Press. He and partner Starla Whaley opened The Threshold Event Center in July as a more intimate alternative to a bar to see live music.

“There’s always the clanking of spoons or intoxication or people out-talking great artists,” says Whaley.

While they themselves have enjoyed shows at bars, they realized that music-lovers in Lancaster didn’t have a venue to go to in which patrons can sit down, enjoy music at a lower volume level and be able to clearly hear the musician they came to see.

“This is probably the only room in town that is that intimate,” says Press.
