Neighbors voice concern over proposed midstate pipeline

(Pequea) — As Pennsylvania’s natural gas industry grows, the boom is being felt in places far from the Marcellus Shale.
A proposed gas pipeline through Lancaster County is causing controversy. The route would run along the western edge of the county near the Susquehanna River.
More than 150 people turned out for a public meeting in Pequea last night, hosted by Malinda Clatterbuck, a concerned citizen who says the proposed route would cut directly through her property.
She says she’s mainly worried about environmental and safety impacts.
“I decided I’m probably not the only whose against this going through our community, so I’m going to hold a meeting and give people information I’ve learned as I’ve been doing research. And let them make a decision, so it’s an informed decision rather than ignorance-not knowing what’s going on and finding out after the fact,” she says.
The Tulsa, Oklahoma based pipeline company Williams is developing the project.
The pipeline is one of many planned or already under construction across the state aimed at moving Pennsylvania’s Marcellus Shale gas to market.
The Lancaster County Commissioners will hold a public meeting about the project next Tuesday April 29th at 10:00 a.m.
