Susquehanna Twp. schools catch auditor general’s attention

(Harrisburg) — The state Auditor General is taking a closer look at one Dauphin County school district.

Amid a growing list of community concerns, Auditor General Eugene DePasquale says he’s directed his staff to extend the district’s routine audit.

“We felt that we needed to extend the audit and also inform the district of different issues that we were going to be looking at, specifically on the contract side, basically to make sure the students and the taxpayers are being treated appropriately,” he says.

The school board has postponed a vote on extending two assistant superintendents’ contracts early. STSD spokeswoman Susan Anthony says the process will be on hold until the audit is settled.

No timetable has been set, but Anthony says the district will cooperate.

Concerned students, parents and citizens packed the high school auditorium this week to speak out about perceived problems with discipline, academics and leadership.

Anthony says the administration is actively working to resolve the problems and address the concerns.
