Corman, McCord seek mediation in lawsuit vs. NCAA

State Treasurer Rob McCord
(Harrisburg) — Two elected state officials suing the NCAA over the use of its $60 million fine from Penn State over how it handled the Jerry Sandusky child molestation case are seeking court-ordered mediation.
State Senator Jake Corman, a Republican who represents State College, and Democratic state Treasurer Rob McCord have made the request to Commonwealth Court. They’re trying to keep the fine money in Pennsylvania.
McCord issued a statement saying he was hoping for a “reasonable settlement” that will more quickly help Pennsylvanians who have been victims of child abuse.
Penn State agreed to the penalties a year ago, along with a temporary loss of football scholarships and a four-year ban on post-season play.
A court hearing on the lawsuit is scheduled for next Wednesday.
An NCAA spokeswoman declined comment.
