What’s inside fracking fluid?
The folks at ProPublica have put together a new app examining the chemicals drillers use during the hydraulic fracturing process. Combing through information on FracFocus, the Department of Energy website and other sources, they’ve identified potentially dangerous and “just plain weird” components, including:
- Benzene
- Instant Coffee
- Kerosene
- Resin
- Boric Acid
- Starch
