National Civil War Museum “History: it’s a blast!” Through over 24,000 different artifacts that include manuscripts, documents, photographs and other printed matter, this is a stop in Harrisburg you won’t want to miss out on! Encompassing the period of 1850 through 1876, the National Civil War Museum is a great place to take your family to experience the Civil War. Pennsylvania State Museum Located in the state capitol of Harrisburg, the PA State Museum covers all aspects of Pennsylvania history from the Civil War to the foundations of America as a nation. Curators care for over 3 million objects and the State Museum is the only museum in the commonwealth where the public (kids AND adults) can experience the full richness of the state’s heritage and national experience. State Capitol Building The Capitol sits in the middle of a large complex of Commonwealth buildings and represents the PA seat of state power. Built in 1906 after being destroyed by fire in 1897, the building was dedicated by Teddy Roosevelt himself! Come check it out and take a look at the beautiful artwork, dome, and senate and house chambers. Susquehanna River/City Island Senators Baseball Come on out to RiverSide Statdium where each week the Harrisburg Senators take on a new challenge. Island Breezes For unique City Island fun, why not try flying a kite? You read right, your family can fly a kite right on the banks of the Susquehanna River thanks to Island Breezes, a kite shop located at the north end of RiverSide Village Park. Water Golf Play 18 holes of miniature golf at Water Golf, a mini-golf course located right on City Island. Beautifully landscaped, the course offers many challenges such as water hazards, sloping greens, water falls and a 60 foot walking bridge that spans to scenic vistas. Your family will love playing mini-golf! Make sure you buy the kids an ice-cream cone at the end of the day. Pride of the Susquehanna Riverboat Ever travel by paddlewheel riverboat? No? There’s always a time for firsts, so why not try riding the Pride of the Susquehanna Riverboat on the Susquehanna River? Public cruises are offered daily (June-August) except on Mondays. Enjoy the Select Medical IMAX Theater, featuring a 6-story high projection screen and 16,000 watts of wrap-around sound. If motion picture isn’t your thing, then take a stab at live theater in the Sunoco Performance Theater. Also, don’t forget about the Harsco Science Center where you can experience hands-on learning! Adventure Sports If you’re looking for a place to take the kids, then this is it! Mini-golf, bumper boats, go-karts and arcade games await your entire family.
