McConnells Mill State Park
Pennsylvania is home to some of the most beautiful state parks in all of North America. The best part is, no matter where you are in the state, you don’t have to travel far to enjoy these free outdoor getaways. Just 45 minutes north of Pittsburgh, in Lawrence County, lies McConnells Mill State Park encompassing over 2,500 acres of the Slippery Rock Creek Gorge. Created by the draining of glacial lakes thousands of years ago, the gorge has steeps sides and the valley floor is littered with huge boulders making it an all natural national landmark. A gristmill built in the 1800s is open for tours and the park is open from sunrise to sunset, year-round.
