AFRICAN AMERICAN MUSEUM OF PHILADELPHIA
Just a few blocks from Mother Bethel you’ll find the African American Museum of Philadelphia. Located in city’s historic district, the museum traces the experiences and contributions of African-Americans from the kingdoms of Africa through present day.

STEVENS AND SMITH HISTORIC SITE
Enslaved Africans often traveled 90 miles west from Philadelphia into Lancaster County. Here they found refuge in the homes of those who took a stand against slavery. One of those homes belonged to Congressman and abolitionist Thaddeus Stevens. Today several building’s owned by Thaddeus Stevens and Lydia Hamilton-Smith are being restored and converted into a historical museum and education center. Here visitors can explore a secret “station” on the Underground Railroad plus experience firsthand an era that marked a turning point in America’s history.
