SPIRIT OF INDEPENDENCE:
I-76 QUEST FOR FREEDOM

With Philadelphia as the main hub, places like Lancaster, Blairsville and even Pittsburgh became important stops along Pennsylvania’s Underground Railroad. Today, the Pennsylvania Turnpike is one of the state’s key transportation routes and links Philadelphia to Pittsburgh.

This week Janelle, Kiwanni and Kai follow in the footsteps of courageous freedom seekers and embark on their own Quest for Freedom along I-76. Stops include: Mother Bethel A.M.E. Church in Philadelphia, York’s William Goodridge House, Laurel Hill State Park, Brier Hill Farm in Blairsville, and the Heinz History Center in Pittsburgh.
