Itinerary
UPPER SCHUYLKILL HOMECOMING & ASHLAND PARADE
Founded in 1903, the Ashland Boys Association started this annual celebration as a way to get together and reminisce about their old hometown. Today the Ashland Parade is the centerpiece of weekend-long festivities held throughout the Upper Schuylkill region.
ANTHRACITE MUSEUM OF MINING
From the Civil War to the early 20th century, coal was king in Northeast PA! You can learn more about the history of coal mining industries and technology at the Museum of Anthracite Mining in Ashland.
PIONEER TUNNEL COAL MINE
Travel back in time and experience the life of a Pennsylvania coal miner at the Pioneer Tunnel. Ride a mine car deep inside Mahanoy Mountain and discover the dangerous and often backbreaking conditions miners once endured.
CENTRALIA
Welcome to Centralia, an abandoned town just a few miles outside of Ashland. What happened in this small mining community nearly 50 years ago still has the town smoldering…literally. Join the Leidigh family for a trek through the smoky hillsides of this modern day ghost town with tour guide David DeKok, Centralia expert and author of Unseen Danger.

The area affected by the Centralia mine fire is extremely dangerous. Visitors are advised to explore at their own risk.
TUSCARORA STATE PARK
Explore the peace and quiet of lake and forests at nearby Tuscarora State Park. Nestled against Locust Mountain, you’ll find lots to do. Catch a trophy bass, take a dip in the lake or paddle along in a kayak.
JERRY'S CLASSIC CARS AND COLLECTIBLES
Cruise into Jerry's Classic Cars and Collectibles! The museum has an authentic '50s atmosphere plus a cool collection of antique wheels.
