SPIRIT OF INDEPENDENCE
THE UNDERGROUND RAILROAD IN LYCOMING COUNTY

The Underground Railroad--an undercover organization made up of secret agents, cryptic codes and freedom fighters. It served as a lifeline to thousands of enslaved Africans. And in Lycoming County and the surrounding area, courageous men and women--both black and white--worked together to rise up against slavery.
Meet Philip and Jennifer. They met a couple of years ago and have been friends ever since. Jennifer recently moved which means they don’t get to see each other as much as they’d like. A road trip to Lycoming County is great way for them to catch up, plus learn more about the area’s role in the Underground Railroad.
