Converted Railroad Buildings:
The Red Caboose Motel, Strasburg
In 1969 a Lancaster County man bid on some rusty old cabooses up for auction. He never would’ve guessed that he’d actually end up the proud owner of 19 old train cars. Just what do you do with a bunch of old Cabooses you might ask? Turn them into a motel of course! The Red Caboose Motel is the perfect place for families and rail fans alike!

Scenic Railroads:
East Broad Top Railroad, Rockhill Furnace
Founded in 1856, this railroad once carried lumber, ore, coal, and passengers. Today, the East Broad Top Railroad remains essentially intact, with its original steam locomotives and much of its rolling stock still in place.

Strasburg Railroad, Strasburg
If you’re in the Lancaster County area, stop by Strasburg where you can ride an authentically restored passenger car pulled by a coal-burning locomotive. Known as America's oldest short-line railroad, visitors can travel past breath-taking scenery and Amish farms. There’s also a dining car that hosts sumptutous dinners, wine and cheese events, plus murder mysteries. Plus, a portion of every ticket sale helps preserve the more than 20 farms and 1000 acres of scenic land along the railroad line .

Steamtown National Historic Site, Scranton
Discover the age of steam at Steamtown National Historic Site in Scranton. Explore the History and Technology of Steam Railroading in one of two museums or check out the working railroad yard and find out what goes on in the Roundhouse. Plus see a huge collection of steam and diesel-electric locomotives.

Railways of a Different Kind:
Pennsylvania Trolley Museum , Washington
During the early 1930’s, when the Mallo Cup was first invented, trains weren’t the only things riding the rails in Pennsylvania. A popular way to get around town was on the trolley. Head to Washington County and explore the Pennsylvania Trolley Museum.
Visitors can climb aboard an operating trolley and explore over 50 other restored cars. The museum is chock full of artifacts and photos from Pennsylvania's trolley days.

Pittsburgh Inclines
Or check out the world famous Pittsburgh Inclines. The view from Mount Washington is breathtaking - and the best way to get to the top is by hitching a ride on an incline!

Miniature Railroad & Village at the Carnegie Science Center, Pittsburgh
This mini railroad has been a Pittsburgh tradition for over 50 years! Located in the Carnegie Science Center, the exhibit is the most detailed of its kind and gives visitors a birds-eye-view of what life looked like at the turn of the century

Lower Trail/Rails to Trails
Preserving PA’s railroad heritage by converting abandoned rail corridors into beautiful walking trails is the primary goal of the rails to trails program. Lower Trail follows 11 miles of the old Petersburg Line is today a great hiking, biking and bridle trail.
