The newest recording by violinist Anne Akiko Meyers has immediately gone to number 1 on the classical charts. A big attraction is her performance of the Bach “Double” concerto for two violins. Meyers uses a different famus Stradivarius violin to play each part.  You can hear a sample of what the two famous violins sound like together in our interview with her below.

The Harrisburg Singers and Trinity Lutheran Church in Camp Hill will sponsor the second American Composer’s Choral Festival on Saturday, March 10. The director of the Mormon Tabernacle Choir, Dr. Mack Wilberg, will be conducting the Harrisburg Singers and a combined choir from nine area churches in some of his best-known arrangements and original works. A fifteen piece orchestra ensemble will accompany the massed choir.  The concert begins at 7:30 in the evening at Trinity Lutheran Church.

American composer and conductor George Tsontakis has been chosen to receive the 2012 Lancaster Symphony Orchestra Composer’s Award. He will conduct the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra in a performance of his own work, Lakonika, in a concert February 24-26.

 Award winning American composer Steven Bryant will be in residency at Gettysburg College from November 30-December 2. He will be lecturing in a number of master classes and joining the Sunderman Conservatory Wind Symphony in a concert of his music on December 2 at 8 pm at the Majestic Theatre in Gettysburg.

In his new work, Vox Terra, composer Richard Danielpour expresses in music “what the earth might say if it could speak to us”. The world premiere of the work will be given by the Lancaster Symphony Orchestra in a concert coming up November 11-13.

In a joint production, Central Pennsylvania Youth Ballet and the Harrisburg Symphony Orchestra will present a new ballet version of Carnival of the Animals by Camille Saint-Saens. Performances will be 1 p.m. and 3 p.m. Saturday, October 22, and Sunday, October 23.
