Late Monday, the jury returned its verdict in the case against former Veon – he has been found guilty on 14 counts of theft, conspiracy and conflict of interest for using public money to conduct campaign work. While onetime staffer Steve Keefer was cleared on all charges, two other former employees, Brett Cott and Annamarie Perretta Rosepink, have been found guilty on several counts, indicating the jury believed they did campaign work on state time.
Veon's lawyer, Dan Raynak, says he'll appeal the verdicts, and says he's convinced Attorney General Tom Corbett's investigation was politically motivated. Corbett is a candidate for Governor.
We'll talk with WITF's Scott Detrow about the verdict and its implications.
Then - it passed! Now…what is it? Over time, the new health care law will extend coverage to more than 30 million uninsured Americans and prohibit industry practices such as denying coverage to people with existing medical conditions. Meanwhile, a second measure approved by House Democrats, which would make a series of changes, is due for consideration in the Senate.
But what does this all mean for you, your family, your doctor, and your health care experience? We'll discuss it with WITF's Health Consultant Dr. Teresa Burick and Sharon Ward, the Executive Director of the Pennsylvania Budget and Policy Center, and a member of the Pennsylvania Health Access Network.
