The Myth of American Religious Freedom

Written by  Scott LaMar, Director of Radio Smart Talk

Radio Smart Talk for Tuesday, March 29:

Is there truly religious liberty in the United States, or is that largely a myth? According to David Sehat, Assistant Professor of History at Georgia State University, the separation of church and state that we have come to cherish as a defining feature of America is misstated – that, in fact, there is a long history of religious control of government in the United States.

We'll find out what Sehat means by "control" when we talk with him about his new book The Myth of American Religious Freedom.

History is action & reaction, in our empty chaulk board of a new world many settlers were religious misfits that the state/religion monarchies of Europe were content to export to America. While some colonies were profit ventures the New England settlements along with Maryland and Pennsylvania, were clear reactions to the former tradition of State religion. How is this appreciation of free thought satisfied by the constitution?
