with recent polls showing Toomey ahead of Specter by more than 20 points.
Some Republicans have criticized Sen. Specter over the years as being too liberal, but what fired up many of them was Specter's vote earlier this year for President Obama's economic stimulus package. Specter was one of three Republicans in the Senate to support the stimulus bill. At the time, Sen. Specter said he was voting for the proposal because he felt something had to be done to keep the nation from falling into a 1929 type depression.
Sen. Specter's move now gives Democrats a 59-40 majority in the Senate -- something many observers have said could help President Obama get his agenda through Congress. Specter was quick to point out though, that he will remain independent and won't vote along party lines.
Wednesday's show will examine the fallout from Specter's party switch. We'll take your phone calls and emails as well.
