My point-and-shoot cameras (two Nikon CoolPix of different generations) have a "sport mode" that releases the shutter as soon as you push the button.

Robin...shutter lag on point-and-shoots can be frustrating indeed! Marguerite has some good info below. Also check out reviews at www.dpreview.com for info on which cameras have better or worse shutter lag.

Can I give a shameless plug for my husband, who took up photography in retirement with fairly inexpensive digital camera? Check out his photographs (mostly nature) on his website at www.druthersndragons.com

For what it's worth, I came from a family full of "shutterbugs" & one worked for Kodak so, I've been exposed to a variety of cameras: pin-hole, Instamatic, 35mm, large format, & digital. Presently I'm very happy with my "Fuji FinePix S700. It gives me all the options I use & then some & I've gotten great "shots." I use "Adobe Photoshop" & "Lemke's GraphicConverte r." PhotoShop is great but, expensive. GraphicConverte r is cheaper, a must so far as I'm concerned, & a great tool but, it's limited to doing it's main functions very well.

Please display more photos. I loved looking at them & thought this was a great idea. Maybe questions for another photographer?
