There are, however, things we can try to learn from this and other incidents in U.S. history of public officials being targeted violently. We can explore the dichotomy between public officials’ need to be accessible to the public, and need for security from some elements of the public. And we can try to understand the psychological traits that would-be assassins through history may have in common. We’ll explore these issues, and welcome your thoughts.
Also, Easy Company Commander Dick Winters, whose men were involved in some of the decisive battles of World War II in Europe, made famous by the book and HBO miniseries Band of Brothers, died last week at the age of 92. We’ll have a remembrance.
