Unfortunately, often it takes the death of a high profile person to bring attention to a problem like prescription drug abuse.
The Pennsylvania Medical Society says there are more 12 to 17 year olds abusing prescription drugs than ectascy, cocaine, heroin, and methamphetamines combined. Prescription drugs have become the drug of choice for many young people because they don't have to buy them on the street -- most of the time, the drugs are in the family medicine cabinet.
