Jobs; Harley-Davidson

Written by  Craig Cohen

Those kind of numbers make local workers at the York Harley-Davidson plant even more anxious than they are already. In response to the business slowdown, the company may close manufacturing facilities and the York plant hasn't been ruled out. In fact, Harley Chief Executive Officer Keith Wandell was quoted as saying, "Our hope and desire is that we will be able to stay in York, but we can only stay there if in fact we have a plant and factory that is sustainable for the long term for this business."

When a brand name like Harley-Davidson is in danger, it makes people wonder whether their own job is safe in this economy.

Adding to the insecurity is news that Pennsylvania's unemployment rate was up one-tenth of a point in September to 9.8%.
