Impact of War during the holidays

Written by  Craig Cohen

In 2009, WITF's Impact of War project focused on the emotional toll a deployment has on the families of service men and women . . and how the community copes with their absence.

As the Impact of War series continues, Tuesday's Radio Smart Talk and Friday's Smart Talk TV program will feature several war veterans sharing their experiences. Radio Smart Talk takes more of a historic point of view as we hear from a World War II hero who survived Christmas 1944 surrounded by Germans as part of the Battle of the Bulge.

2nd Tour book

Peter van Agtmael, a photographer who has chronicled the American wars in Afghanistan and Iraq in his new book 2nd Tour Hope I Don't Die will also be on the show.

Guests:
Jan Yupcavage, Team Leader, Harrisburg Vets Center, U.S. Dept. of Veterans Affairs

Gelu Negrea, former, U.S. Marine and Iraq War veteran

Paul Lehman, a decorated World War II veteran from Halifax, Dauphin County who served with the 101st Airborne Division and saw action throughout Europe
