Getting a heart -- literally (during this Heart Health Month)

Written by  Scott LaMar, Director of Radio Smart Talk

Radio Smart Talk for Monday, February14 :

On this Valentine’s Day, you may feel inspired to ‘give your heart’ to someone, figuratively speaking. But what about literally?

Every year, more than two thousand heart transplants are performed in the United States. We’ll talk with a human heart recipient about the experience of knowing someone who, upon death, literally gave his or her heart away so that he could live.

We’ll also welcome your questions about heart surgery for Dr. Edward Stephenson from Penn State Milton S. Hershey Medical Center. He’s a board certified thoracic and general surgeon who specializes in coronary artery bypass surgery, valve surgery, heart assist system insertion (like assist devices and total artificial hearts), aortic surgery, and heart transplants.
