Might the industry also have "focus grouped" itself out of relevance, by gearing music more and more to an age group (teens) that's abandoning traditional forms of media? Or are we experiencing a good old-fashioned dearth in talent, with no up-and-coming songwriters offering music and lyrics likely to stand the test of time?
In a day and age when anyone can record and share their music with anyone, who needs a recording industry?
