Radio Smart Talk for Thursday, May 12:
About one in eight women in the United States will develop breast cancer by the time they reach 80 years of age. With the exception of skin cancer, breast cancer is the most commonly diagnosed cancer in American women. If breast cancer is detected in its earliest stages, 98% of patients will survive at least five years. However, there have been recommendations and reports in the media during the past two years that have led to confusion over when to get screened for breast cancer.
As part of witf's multimedia Facing Cancer Together initative, Thursday's Radio Smart Talk will look at breast cancer with our guests: Pat Halpin-Murphy, a breast cancer survivor and founder of the Pennsylvania Breast cancer Coalition and Dr. Thomas Bauer, a surgical oncologist with WellSpan Health.
