Radio Smart Talk for Monday, December 26:
Monday's Radio Smart Talk is the first program of a week of encore shows. On the program, we look back at Gov. Tom Corbett's education reform agenda from two different viewpoints – an official from the PA Department of Education obviously supports the governor's ideas and the PA School Boards Association and PA State Education Association oppose at least one part of it.
The plan would make tuition vouchers available to low income students who attend the worst performing schools in order to move to another public or private school, implement tougher evaluations of teachers, and includes charter school reform and more business-funded scholarships. But vouchers was the most discussed aspect of the proposal.
The state legislature adjourned last week without voting on the four main components of Corbett's education plan. But the encore program provides background on what's being considered.
