Radio Smart Talk for Friday, December 30:
A look at the top stories of the year on Radio Smart Talk continue Friday.
In early November, former Penn State assistant football coach Jerry Sandusky was arrested and charged with molesting or sexually assaulting nine young boys. The ensuing scandal resulted in charges of perjury before a grand jury and not reporting a crime against the Penn State athletic director and a university vice president. Iconic Penn State head football coach Joe Paterno and university president Graham Spanier were fired by the board of trustees for not reporting one of the alleged assaults. This year's Penn State football team was relegated to a minor bowl game because the Penn State name was considered toxic.
The fallout from the Sandusky case continues to this day.
Scandals aren't very often the subject of discussion on Radio Smart Talk, but this one was so far-reaching and attracted so much attention that it had to be addressed. This encore program aired just after the Sandusky news broke and the night Paterno was fired.
