Radio Smart Talk for Tuesday, December 27:
The top stories of the year on Radio Smart Talk continue Tuesday.
Twenty years from now, when the year 2011 is mentioned in conversation, what many will remember first is the weather. It was a rough year here in Central Pennsylvania and across the country.
Records for rainfall in the midstate were not just broken – they were smashed. All that rain brought floods. In September, the precipitation that accompanied Tropical Storm Lee resulted in flooding along the Ssuquehanna River and creeks but also in homes and structures that weren't even close to bodies of water. Hundreds of homes were badly damaged and some even destroyed.
In October it snowed and even though it wasn't related to the weather, there was an earthquake felt in Pennsylvania and along the East Coast in August.
Several tornados touched down in the midstate and caused damage. However, those events were minor compared to the devastating tornados in the south and Midwest last Spring. Many were left asking whether climate change or global warming were behind the extreme weather. That's what we examined on this encore Radio Smart Talk.
