Radio Smart Talk for Wednesday, December 28:
A look at the top stories of the year continue on Wednesday's Radio Smart Talk.
The impact of Marcellus Shale natural gas drilling in Pennsylvania dominated the headlines this year. Seemingly, every day there was news about how much gas there is in Pennsylvania, what effect it was having on local communities where wells are located, the impact drilling is having on the environment – especially the water – near drilling sites, how many jobs the industry is creating, new rules and regulations, and whether to tax or impose a fee on drillers.
Radio Smart Talk produced about a dozen programs in 2011 that focused or touched on Marcellus Shale. The encore program On Wednesday aired the week after Governor Tom Corbett announced his Marcellus Shale plan in October. State Impact PA reporter Scott Detrow, who closely monitors all things Marcellus, appeared on the show. The encore show also features a reporter from Williamsport describing how that area had changed since drilling started.
