Vice Admiral Gunn has also been an outspoken critic of the use of torture and secret prisons in interrogating terrorism suspects.
Vice Admiral Gunn is currently President of the Institute for Public Research at CNA in Alexandria, Virginia. He also serves as President of the American Security Project, a bi-partisan, non-profit enterprise dedicated to engaging the American people in a broader and deeper conversation about the complex nature of national security policy. Before taking on these roles, Vice Admiral Gunn served in the United States Navy for 35 years. He commanded a Frigate, a Destroyer Squadron, and the Third Fleet Amphibious Force. He was a line officer, and for the last three years of his Navy career, and was the Inspector General of the Department of the Navy.
