Blame the Media

Written by  Craig Cohen

Radio Smart Talk for Monday, January 31:

It’s become a common refrain these days – “blame the media.” Cable news networks are held responsible for our coarse national discourse…journalists have abandoned objectivity, depth, and context for the easier path of opinion and snark….fake news shows are more responsible than the real ones...

There may be more than a kernel of truth in all of those statements. There may also be some scapegoating. Is today’s society a reflection of what our media projects, or does media merely reflect society? And just who is “the media” in a world of blogs, You Tube, and “citizen journalism.” Aren’t we all “the media?

We’ll talk it over with Alison Dagnes, Professor of Political Science at Shippensburg University.
