An Independence Day Special -- American history in context (even some myths) -- Radio Smart Talk, Thursday, July 2

Written by  Scott LaMar, Director of Radio Smart Talk

For example, Paul Revere did ride through Concord, Massachusetts on a dark night in 1775 to warn of the positions of British troops, but he didn't scream "the British are coming!" Revere was one of several riders that night and probably didn't say anything beyond a whisper because there were British patrols all around him and Revere was actually captured by the British.

Then there is the story of Betsy Ross sewing the first American flag with 13 stars and stripes. Did it happen or is that a myth?

Thursday's Radio Smart Talk will explore a few stories from American history and bring some context to them. We hope you call in with your favorite or most inspirational moment in history.

Guests:

Dr. Kenneth Wolensky, historian, PA State Historical and Museum Commission

Dr. Michael Barton, Ph.D.
Professor of American Studies and Social Science Director, Center for Pennsylvania Culture Studies The Pennsylvania State University at Harrisburg
