Alzheimer's Disease dramatized

Written by  Scott LaMar, Director of Radio Smart Talk

There are many medical conditions that change lives, but the argument can probably be made that none more so than Alzheimer's. Those with Alzheimer's can lose their memories almost completely, depending on how the symptoms progress, and even forget the names and faces of loved ones. They often lose the ability to care for themselves, even when it comes to day-to-day chores, responsibilities or necessities and their families often become caregivers.

With the assistance of the Hershey Area Playhouse, Radio Smart Talk will present a dramatization of the effects of Alzheimer's on Tuesday's show. The Hershey Area Playhouse is presenting Full Moon Over Montmartre, January 14-16 (7:30 p.m. each night), a play about a couple dealing with Alzheimer's.

Appearing on Radio Smart Talk will be Full Moon Over Monmartre Producer Skip Becker, Director James Thomas and actors Dianne Chapmann and Earl Leininger. After a scene from the play, Dr. Danny George, an Assistant Professor of Humanities at Penn State's College of Medicine at the Hershey Medical Center and Joel Kroft, the Executive Director of Memory Support Services at Country Meadows Retirement Communities will answer questions from the audience on Alzheimer's.
