Bees can help us stay healthy. By eating local honey we can minimize our allergic reactions to the pollen around us. Learn more about bees and please work to help save their declining population.

Can you talk about cyanoacrylate (Super Glue) allergies? What symptoms present? How does someone prevent developing sensitivity?

I’ve been taking monthly allergy shots for dust, pollen, and cat dander for 6 years now (uncovered by my insurance), and I recently stopped taking them b/c I had known, but was frustrated with the idea that there was no definite end date to ever stop my shots. My question is simply is there any therapy or “cure” on the horizon that works more effectively, for a longer term than our current method of injecting small amounts of our allergens to buildup resistance.

Followup question:

Is it a good idea to be retested years later to see if we’re still reacting to the same allergens or different allergens?

I suffered with springtime allergies for years starting in my late 30's and continuing until about 4 years ago at age 60 when they suddenly disappeared! Can they just stop like that? Not that I'm complaining!
Also, since then I seem to have developed a runny nose that is constant--year-round, 365 days a year. No other symptoms, no itching, just a constantly running nose. Is this allergic?

Is it true that certain things pregnant women are exposed to or ingest can trigger the unborn child to have allergies in the future?

My daughter just turned one and is exploring new foods. I have read conflicting reports on when to introduce foods such as cows milk and peanut butter. What is your recommendation for when and how to start? What do I need to look for by way of a bad reaction?

Are reported cases of pediatric allergies on the rise?

Are you aware of any studies which show that kids are more susceptible to allergies because they spend less time outside or exposed to pollen-based allergens?

My mother - allergy free - moved to Hbg. from MA and had a terrible pollen allergy for 20-25 yrs. and then it suddenly disappeared.

I never had any type of allergy to anything until 4 yrs. ago. Now I have an allergy to pollen - -itchy eyes.

I am 35 years old and about 2 years ago I developed polymorphic light eruption, an allergy to the sun. I have always been able to go out in the sun without getting much sunburn and now I have to avoid sun exposure like the plague for fear of blisters on my entire body that cause horrible itching and discomfort. Why did this happen all of a sudden and is there any cure other than UVA/UVB sunscreen? Very frustrated! Thanks Sent from my iPhone

Some bug bites result in huge blisters that last for weeks. Is this an allergy & should I carry an "eppie" pen?

Also, one time, returning home from vacation woke up the next morning with hives from head to toe that lasted approx. 2 days. Is this an allergy or what are hives?

Is it true that eating local honey would help to build immunities toward pollen allergies?

Quoting Ruth:

I wanted to clarify on this point. There are no good studies showing that eating local honey is effective in treating allergies. On air, I made a statement that it would not be harmful, however, in the case of RAW (unprocessed) local honey, there have been reports of people having allergic reactions to the pollens in the honey. So, caution is warranted when ingesting raw honey.

This is for the parent who called about their young son who hopes to get a dog, but who is allergic to them. I'd like to suggest that the family visit a greyhound rescue facility. Not only are these "retired" racers loyal & devoted pets, they're also known to be virtually hypoallergenic! (In the interest of full disclosure, there ARE other breeds, such as poodles, who share this trait, but I like to promote rescuing rather than contributing to excess breeding).

I hope this is helpful, & that this boy (& other allergy sufferers) will know the joy of a dog's love & companionship!
