Democracy, Reconciliation & Civility--Smart Talk Road Trip Goes to Gettysburg

Smart Talk Road Trip Spangler Farm

Take a Smart Talk Road Trip to Gettysburg on Wednesday, July 11th as we broadcast live from the historic George Spangler Farm, site of a Civil War Field Hospital. Join us at 9 AM for a conversation about the importance of peace and civility in our daily lives and uncover the story of the Civil War hospital at Spangler Farm.

July 3 is the 80th anniversary of the dedication of the Eternal Peace Light Memorial located on the Gettysburg battlefield. It has an interesting history and commemorates peace, reconciliation and the 75th anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg. Fast forward to today. We live in a world where political discussions are often uncivil. What better time to have a thoughtful and frank discussion on democracy and civility. We'll focus on ideas large and small to improve civility, citizenship, reconciliation and more.

Plus, we'll explore the intriguing story of the Civil War hospital at George Spangler Farm--the best surviving example of a farm used as a corps field hospital during the battle of Gettysburg. One minute, George Spangler and his family were working on their 80-acre farm. The next, the battle came to Gettysburg, and their thriving family farm was transformed into one of the largest field hospitals and artillery staging areas in the battle.

This event is free but RSVP is requested. The program is LIVE from 9-10am. Please plan to arrive by 8:45am in order to be seated before the show.
