From the Top is an NPR program which takes some of the best young classically trained musicians from all across the country and gives them a platform to showcase their skills.

The show is taped live in front of an audience, and it will be coming to the Strand Capitol Performing Arts Center in a program featuring the York Symphony Orchestra.

The host of From the Top, concert pianist Christopher O'Riley, will appear on Smart Talk, sharing stories about some of the extraordinary young musicians who have appeared on the show, and talking about the state of classical music today in America.

Also, the York Symphony Orchestra, like many orchestras throughout the country has struggled with diminishing audiences and declining interest in classical concerts.

But in the space of the last 3 seasons, the orchestra has had a lot of success in turning things around, and have been performing to near sellout audiences.

Conductor Lawrence Golan and general Manager Michael Reichmann talk about how the symphony achieved this.
