What to look for on Smart Talk Wednesday, September 7, 2016:

Before telephones, movies, television or today's digital technology, the form of mass communication our ancestors utilized often was storytelling.  Stories could be how messages were sent but they also had life lessons or as we describe them today -- "morals to the story" -- or were purely for entertainment purposes.  Families would gather and share stories.

Sometimes stories became books and that's where many people looked to for their stories.

Since communications have changed so much, one may conclude that the art of storytelling has faded.  But that probably wouldn't be accurate because there are stories being told every day -- we just don't recognize them for what they are.

The 5th annual Lititz Storytelling Festival is scheduled for Friday and Saturday at the Warwick Middle School Auditorium.  It is described as a concert of storytelling.

One of the world's renowned storytellers -- Daniel Morden -- will perform and also appear on Wednesday's Smart Talk along with Festival founder David Worth.

Also, social enterprise is a group, organization or company that incorporates a social or environmental goal in its business model.  The online voting and crowdfunding phase of Lancaster County's 2017 Great Social Enterprise Pitch is underway.  It is a project of the Lancaster County Community Foundation and ASSETS Lancaster.

To tell us more about it on Wednesday's show are Jessica King, CEO and Jonathan Coleman, Director of Programs, both from ASSETS Lancaster.
