What to look for on Smart Talk Wednesday, December 9, 2015:

Twenty-five-year-old Rayon Braxton was shot and killed the night after Thanksgiving in a Harrisburg building where he wanted to create a community center.  Braxton was the 17th murder victim in the capital city this year.  Statistically, 17 isn't a large number compared to cities like Chicago, Baltimore and Philadelphia where there are hundreds of homicides each year.  But for a city the size of Harrisburg with less than 50,000 people -- it represents a high murder rate.

This story shouldn't be about numbers anyway.  The murder victims were sons, daughters, brothers, sisters and parents themselves.

Stopping violence in Harrisburg, or any city for that matter, is a difficult task.  There is no simple answer.

A new project called Cure Violence has come to Harrisburg.  It is designed to treat violence like it is a health problem.

Dr. John Reuwer appears on Wednesday's Smart Talk to explain what the project entails.

Also, with colder temperatures and winter weather in the near future, what is the most efficient and least expensive way to heat your home?

Matt Sommer, President of Shipley Energy in York joins us to explain.

    Manuel in Carlisle emails:

The best option on cutting heating cost, may not be a heating item at all. I bought a 100 year old home which had cost about $200 a month to heat in winter and the upstairs NEVER got warm. Since then, I invested about $900 to insulate the upstairs, and have seen a reduction to about $125 a month to heat, and we have at times needed to crack the window in the winter as it gets quite warm. In other words, in 2 years time, the insulation will pay for itself. Insulate, insulate, insulate!!!
