What to look for on Smart Talk Friday, January 2, 2015:

The top national story of 2014 may be two incidents that resulted in the deaths of  a black man and a black teenager at the hands of police officers and the ensuing protests and uproar.

Ferguson, Missouri became the epicenter of racial strife in this country after 18-year-old Michael Brown was shot and killed by Officer Darren Wilson.  Brown was unarmed but a grand jury found Wilson believed his life was in danger and no criminal charges were filed.

The black community was outraged and protestors took to the streets.  Some got violent.

Another grand jury – this one in New York -- didn’t come back with charges in the death of Eric Garner – an African-American man who died after police put him in a stranglehold.

Smart Talk delved into the relationship between police, the justice system, and minorities in August and it is one of our Top Stories of 2014.

Appearing on the program are Sandra Thompson, president of the York NAACP, Susquehanna Township Director of Public Safety Rob Martin, and Dauphin County District Attorney Ed Marsico.
