Immigrants on the Texas border
What to look for on Smart Talk Thursday, November 20, 2014:
President Barack Obama says he is taking matters into his own hands on immigration reform since no action has come out of Congress.
The president reportedly will announce Thursday night that he is taking executive action and will sidestep Congress.
Obama is expected to issue an order providing temporary protections for up to five million undocumented immigrants. Most of them would be eligible for temporary protective status, meaning they can't be deported.
Republicans are already criticizing the presidential plans and some have even threatened to defund programs needed to make it work.
On Thursday's Smart Talk, we'll get a legal and Constitutional analysis of President Obama's immigration plan from Prof. Jill Family, Director of the Law and Government Institute at the Widener School of Law.
Also, the American Red Cross is campaigning for fire safety.
Thanksgiving is a particularly dangerous time because so many fires start with cooking in the kitchen. Cold weather also creates the potential for fire too because heating systems are being used for the first time this season.
Kathy Smyser, the Regional Communications Manager for the Red Cross appears on Smart Talk to explain and provide fire prevention tips.
