Smart Talk continues a series of conversations with the Democrats running for governor.  There are eight candidates competing to take on incumbent Republican Gov. Tom Corbett in November.

Tuesday's program features a discussion with Katie McGinty.

McGinty is a former Secretary of the Pennsylvania Department of Environmental Protection, was Chair of the White House Council on Environmental Quality during the Clinton Administration and also worked closely with former Vice President Al Gore when he was in the U.S. Senate.

Also, what issues are most important to you in the gubernatorial campaign?

The candidates are already debating and making their stump speeches, but are they addressing the issues that are most significant to you or impact you or your family the most?

Whether it be education, the environment, taxes, or jobs -- what do you want to hear from the candidates?

On Tuesday's Smart Talk, we'll pose that question to you.  Call 1-800-729-7532, email us at smarttalk@witf.org, or leave a comment below.

Here's a sample of a few of the issues candidates are discussing.  Which ones are most significant to you or your family?

  • Jobs – how to create them?
  • Education funding – should state provide more money, funding formula changed, more equal amongst districts?
  • How to improve education – reliance on test scores?
  • Property tax reform?
  • Marcellus Shale natural gas – enough oversight, severance tax on wells, how to expand production, moratorium?
  • Renewable energy expansion – realistic in short term?
  • Higher education funding – state provide more?
  • Tobacco use taxed more?  Smokeless tobacco taxed at all?
  • Privatize liquor stores – sell beer and wine in grocery stores?
  • Public pension reform?
  • Same sex marriage legalized?
  • Marijuana legalized for medical use and/or recreational use?
  • Accept money from federal government for the expansion of Medicaid?
  • Prevailing wage for public projects?
  • Raising the minimum wage?
  • Sentencing reform – alternative sentences for non-violent offenders?
  • New restrictions on guns?
  • Treatment of the mentally ill?

    A listener emails:

Pennsylvania's Corporate Tax is the highest in the US and is also more than three times what the personal tax rate. This kills job growth.
