RST: What Americans can learn overseas

What to look for on Radio Smart Talk, Wednesday, August 21:

Great Wall of China 300 x 170.jpg

Hundreds of thousands of American high school and college students have traveled or studied abroad.  They often come home with a new appreciation for and knowledge of the places they visited.  For many, their experiences are real eye openers into different cultures and the way people from around the world live.

With today's technology and social media, its easy for people from one country to communicate with or learn about another.

However, seeing a foreign land on a computer or phone screen is much different than actually setting foot there.

On Wednesday's Radio Smart Talk, three local students who recently visited other countries will join us to describe their experiences and what they learned.  They'll also discuss what the natives of those nations wanted to know about America and Americans.

China, England, and France were the destinations.

What can we all learn through the eyes of these young people?

Enjoying the conversation! It's reminding me of opportunities I had during college to study in Israel twice. Experiences like that are so valuable. It was life changing for me.
But speaking of what people overseas think of Americans... I was there not long after the Monica Lewinsky scandal and during a home stay in northern Israel younger kids who couldn't speak any English would still come up to me and say "Clinton and Monica!" Oy.
