What to look for on Radio Smart Talk, Tuesday, September 3, 2013:
Recovery Month promotes the societal benefits of prevention, treatment, and recovery for mental and substance use disorders, celebrates people in recovery, lauds the contributions of treatment and service providers, and promotes the message that recovery in all its forms is possible. Recovery Month spreads the positive message that behavioral health is essential to overall health, that prevention works, treatment is effective and people can and do recover. That's according to the Substance Abuse and Mental Health Services Administration, who sponsors the observance.
There are about 23 million Americans who once abused drugs or alcohol but are now recovering. It's estimated another 20 million currently regularly use drugs or alcohol.
On Tuesday's Radio Smart Talk, we'll focus on the current state of abuse including what drugs are being abused, by what age groups, trends in drug and alcohol use, and treatment options.
Our guest is Shawn McNichol, Administrator of the York/Adams Drug and Alcohol Commission.
