The weekend after July 4th is one of the most vacationed weekends of the year.

The Department of Community and Economic Development (DCED) estimates 200,000 visitors will stop-by the keystone state just for the 150th anniversary of the battle of Gettysburg. That’s about $100 million to the state in only 10 days.

Although, there’s more to do in Pennsylvania than battlefields and reenactments. An estimated 10 million visitors will come to Lancaster County this year for the picturesque countryside and Amish Heritage. Plus, who hasn’t driven past a packed Hershey Park parking lot in the middle of July?

On the show today, we’ll talk to the President of the Dutch County Visitors Bureau, Kathleen Frankford, and Dauphin County Commissioner, George Hartwick. We’ll discuss the tourism industry in Central PA and possibly discover new hidden gems in our own backyard.

We’ll also talk to Diane McGraw, the recently announced Director of Tourism for DCED and hear her plans for the tourism industry in Pennsylvania.

Many of you will be traveling to the beach this weekend, possibly even to the reconstructed Jersey Shore. Scott Cronik reporter for The Press of Atlantic City and Atlantic City Insiders will join us to give an update on the efforts to save the shore.

We’d also like to hear from you today. What’s your favorite vacation spot? Where do you go to get away?

Feel free to leave a comment below.

    Email from Ted

Maine is called the Vacationland for a reason. It offers a wide variety of outdoor activities. And the weather is marvelous.

We love to go in July and August when it is hot and humid in Lancaster PA.

There is virtually no humidity in Maine and it is warm and sunny. If someone has never been to Maine, it is a trip well worth the time!

For an exciting automotive experience, go to the Susquehanna SCCA autocross this Sunday at the Harrisburg Farm Show complex. Spectators are free!!! Bring water, chairs and a picnic.
Next week, visit the Outlets in Gettysburg. Don't worry, the bulk of the tourists have gone. They will be hosting a fine showing of British sports cars. Again, spectators are free.
For further information on these and other automotive and bike events, visit
