As part of World AIDS Day, we spent today's Radio Smart Talk discussing HIV/AIDS trends in the midstate and a new law that will result in more Pennsylvanians getting tested for the virus. In response to the show, Robert Colgan posted the following comment:
"Testing those who are most at risk of transmission ---- drug users who inject, those sexually active ----could actually be construed as a type of demographic profiling......but makes the most sense of all.
I'm not big on mandated testing-----but when there is an epidemic afoot, does it not make sense to order everyone between the ages of 13 and 64 to be tested at least once every 5 years until the epidemic is brought under control..whether they want to be tested or not?"
We'd like to hear your thoughts on this issue. Should regular AIDS testing be required by law for every adult? Why or why not? What issues do you foresee if such legislation was passed? Do these issues outweigh the public benefit? Please post your response in the comments section below.
