York County leaders make case for more transporation funding

Written by  Craig Layne, Morning Edition Host/Reporter

(York) -- York's leaders say the county faces a rapidly widening gap between the money it has for transportation projects and the money it needs to full fund work that must be done. Darrell Auterson, President and CEO of the York County Economic Development Corporation, says crumbling roads and bridges drive businesses away. "We're going to really come up against some challenges, probably in the not too distant future, becoming a less-favorable location for business investment," Auterson says. He says the problems will only get worse as the county's population grows. He says the I-83 corridor, in particular, makes York County appealing to manufacturers and other businesses. He says the roadway links the county to six of the 10 major U-S markets. Last week, Governor Corbett's Transportation Funding Advisory Commission offered ideas like removing the tax cap on oil companies to come up with $2.5 billion in transportation funding over the next five years.
