(New Cumberland) -- Thousands of flags are on display at a Lancaster County retirement facility as a way to pay tribute to American troops this Veterans Day. The more than 6,000 flags at the Masonic Village at Elizabethtown represent the men and women who've died in combat since September 11th, 2001. U.S. Air Force veteran Glenn Kurzenknabe is president of the National Sojourners veterans group, which helped create the memorial. He says the display is just one way to honor many of the residents of the Masonic Village who are veterans themselves. "It should be very special. Of course, there are many, many veterans who reside down there, and their spouses," he says. "Generally, I think we're looking at World War II and Korean War-era veterans that would be residing there. They're very patriotic." A smaller display of about 180 flags from the PawPrints for Pennsylvania Patriots Program can also be seen at the facility. The program raised more than $125,000 for the Susquehanna Service Dogs organization, which provides service dogs to people with disabilities.
