(Bethlehem) -- A Lancaster County museum is home to a colonial-era document that has remained unregistered in historical records for more than 200 years. An old poster, known as a broadside, from 1775 was found at the Lititz Moravian Archives and Museum in Lancaster County. Lehigh University English Professor Scott Gordon identified the broadside that was posted by the Lancaster County Committee of Observation and Inspection. He says the document outlines the roles pacifists should play in the American revolution. "Should we think of them as disloyal? Should we recognize that they're not doing it because of religious scruples, and maybe they could contribute in some other way? This broadside basically asks these religious groups to contribute funds if they were going to choose not to fight," he says. Gordon says the Library of Congress as well as the American Antiquarian Society in Massachusetts were both aware of the existence of a German copy of the document, but not of the copy he found in English. The English version is now included in historical records and is currently on display at the museum.
