(Miami) -- Tomorrow marks the official end of what has been a busy hurricane season. With 19 tropical storms that produced seven hurricanes, the season tied for the third most active on record. Pennsylvania was impacted by Hurricane Irene and the remnants of Tropical Storm Lee. Daniel Brown, a hurricane specialist with the National Hurricane Center, says technology has helped forecasters better detect storms and predict their path. "The forecasting track has greatly improved at the National Hurricane Center over the past 20 or 25 years," he says. "This is mainly due to better computer models and higher resolution models. So, we have seen our track errors cut in half during that time." Some $129 million in federal individual assistance grants and almost $73 million in low-interest disaster assistance loans have been approved for damage from Hurricane Irene and Tropical Storm Lee in the state. The deadline to register in the 29 disaster-declared counties is December 14th.
